Let’s Start Your Therapy Journey!

Welcome!
My name is Alec Wurzbacher, and as a licensed clinical therapist in both Maryland and Colorado, I am passionate about empowering people to discover how to build the life they deserve. My goal is to provide a grounded, nonjudgmental space where you can slow down, gain clarity, and begin building tools that actually work in your daily life. Whether you’re facing stress at work, challenges in communication, emotional regulation difficulties, issues in your sex life, or find that long-standing patterns keep resurfacing, we will work together to create meaningful and lasting change. Therapy with me is collaborative, queer friendly, practical, and focused on helping you reauthor your life story so that you, and not life’s problems, are in control. I am currently accepting clients through Headway.
About Me:
I am a native Marylander, recently moved back to the DMV after six years living in Colorado. I received my BA in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University and my MA in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver. I have extensive experience working with the LGBT+ population and I am passionate about giving back to this community. I am currently working to become an AASECT-Certified Sext Therapist. When I’m not in the therapy office, I enjoy hiking, cooking, playing video and board games, and throwing on the pottery wheel.

Yes! Through Headway, I accept a variety of private insurance plans, such as Cigna, Aetna, and BlueCross BlueShield, among others. Please visit my Headway site to see more: My Headway Page
How long does therapy last?
There is no time limit for how long therapy can last. Typically I see clients for 6 months to a year or more, depending on the nature of what brings them to therapy. In our first session, we’ll focus on understanding what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the process. We will create a treatment plan that helps us track progress and measure your success in our time together.
Who do you see? And when can you see me?
I work with adults of all ages. I see clients virtually Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, and Thursday’s through Headway.
I’ve done therapy in the past and it didn’t work. Why should I try therapy again?
Therapy can be really tricky. Therapy asks that you share some of the most intimate parts of yourself to someone completely new and you trust that the person sitting across from you will fully accept you. This can be a huge ask, and it is okay if you have not had success with therapy in the past; you are not a bad person. If you are ready to take that first step to try therapy again, I am ready to walk alongside you.
